The local currency in Myanmar is called Kyat (pronounces "chat"). US Dollars are easily exchangeable for Foreign Exchange Certificates (FECs) and Kyats. Moneychangers can be found in the main tourist cities (e.g. Mandalay, Yangon, Bagan, etc.)
Myanmar uses 220-230 volts AC, and a mixture of flat 2-pin, round 2-pin or 3-pin plugs. It is recommended that you bring a universal plug adaptor.
Myanmar has three seasons. Cool Season which last from October through February with average temperatures 20-24°C. Hot Season from March to May with average temperatures 30-35°C. And Rainy Season from June through September with average temperatures 25-30°C.
Cell phones from other countries currently do not operate in Myanmar, but dialing code for Myanmar is +(95).
Checks and Credit Cards
Presently, Myanmar is not accepting checks or credit cards. Also, banks are closed on weekends and public holidays.
Any passengers departing Myanmar on international flights will need to pay a departure tax $10 USD.
Even though, it is hot and humid in Myanmar, wearing short-shorts, spaghetti tops, and clothes that are revealing is not appropriate when visiting temples, pagodas, or any religious site. Also, when visiting religious sites, you may be asked to take your shoes off so it is always a good idea to wear sensible shoes which can be easily removed.
